Coastal & Environmental Survey Services

EGS provides global multi-disciplinary oceanographic and environmental specialist support to the civil engineering, construction, telecommunications, power, maritime, hydrocarbon and mining industries. The surveying and consultancy services are based on an innovative approach to problem solving. Stringent quality assurance is maintained by ISO-9000 certification by Det Norske Veritas. EGS has vast first-hand experience with over 2000 individual projects being carried out since its inception in 1974

Services Available

In the coastal zone, these can range from dispersion and dilution studies for a proposed or existing outfall, through to major integrated studies designed to characterise the metocean environment and the resulting sea bed response. In deep water, EGS undertakes investigations for oil and gas exploration.

EGS has a large spread of oceanographic equipment that includes:

  1. High frequency single-point current meters,
  2. Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs),
  3. Tide gauges, Suspended sediment instruments,
  4. Seabed grabs for benthic and geotechnical analyses,
  5. Water samplers

Multi-parameter Data Collection

Dynamic multi-parameter data collection in real time enables a clear picture of the environmental processes at work to be generated. Data collection throughout the entire water column, followed by modeling or other analyses allows for potential impacts to be accurately predicted.

The following parameters can be measured:

  • Temperature
  • Salinity (density)
  • Turbidity and sediment load
  • pH
  • Dye tracing (typically Rhodamine WT)
  • Dissolved Oxygen
  • Chlorophyll-A
  • Current velocity
Multi-parameter instruments enable a simultaneous display all sensor data in colour in real time. Sensors are deployed over the whole water column on a multi-channel ‘string’ with a depressor fitted at the cable end. Digital data collection has a realtime screen display, with navigation overlay.
