The EM302, pinger and gondola in the fabrication yard |
In July 2011, EGS added the RV Northern Endeavour to the existing offshore fleet in order to meet the demanding deadlines of the ongoing cable route survey projects. The vessel was mobilized to carry out survey in the mid-water range utilizing a full geophysical survey spread including a Kongsberg EM302 multibeam echo sounding system. In addition to the EM302 transducer, the mobilization of all hull mounted equipment including a 4 x 4 pinger was completed in a tight 12 days dry dock period allowed. The dimensional survey of the EM302 transducer and its auxiliary survey sensor including a Seapath 320+ system was also completed during this period.
MV Northern Endeavour is chartered until Q2 next year for ongoing survey work in the Middle East
In addition, EGS continues its strategy of acquiring leading edge technology with the recently installed Kongsberg EM710 onboard the RV EGS Surveyor and the installation of a Kongsberg EM122 full ocean depth system and Reson Seabat 7101 onboard the RV Ridley Thomas in January 2012. Furthermore, EGS International is due to take delivery this month of Kongsberg’s’ latest multi beam system, the EM2040. This state-of-the-art, high resolution, 0.5 by 1 degree system which operates between 200 - 400 kHz and in water depths of 0.5m to 500m will add to the extensive pool of multi beam systems already utilised around the EGS group.
Following trials earlier this year C-Products completed an order for a complete C-Boom system including C-Phone MEH to UK Rental Company GSE Rentals. The unit was shipped off to West Africa where it spent 120 days acquiring data; Alan Cameron at GSE said that he is extremely pleased with the mobility and the performance of the system.
Currently C-Products is working on the development of a new multi element hydrophone to add to its range, the unit will provide both analogue and digital outputs and be user configurable to provide data from either 4, 8 or all 12 elements, it will be on show at OI London2012.
EGS International (UK) is proud to have completed the UK summer survey season with its new vessel, the ‘EGS Pioneer’. The fully equipped 24 metre survey vessel has been refitted to provide an efficient and cost effective 24 hour survey platform to meet the ever increasing demand for marine surveys in the renewable, oil & gas and port development sectors. The vessel can accommodate 14 people in 8 cabins; 6 vessel crew and 8 surveyors. Equipment highlights include a Kongsberg EM3002 Multi Beam Echo Sounder and a survey class Argus Remote Operated Vehicle.

The EGS Pioneer has undertaken a number of renewable projects since its launch in April of this year, the most notable of these being a high-resolution UXO detection survey using multiple magnetometers for an offshore wind farm development off the East Coast and a bathymetric and geophysical burial assessment survey for the routing of the export cables for another renewable site off the Northeast Coast of England.
With this new survey platform EGSi looks to strengthen its position in the UK and Europe as an innovative, reliable and respected provider of marine survey services to the offshore industry.
EGS (Vietnam) has completed site work for the detailed design of a Deep Sea port in Nghe An Province in Vietnam. This project included the successful completion of bathymetric, seismic and geotechnical drilling from the new EGSV jack up barge.

Recently EGS Asia Inc has completed a further two swath multi-beam echo sounding surveys off the SW coast of Palawan to detect and position any dangerous shallow coral pinnacles which would cause problems during 2D and 3D seismic surveying operations.
We have also carried out hydrographic and geophysical surveys in 2 sites both in north Mindanao, for proposed marine terminals for the export of nickel ore. A comprehensive land & marine survey was also carried out for a large Philippine power corporation, who are constructing a coal fired power plant near Davao, southern Mindanao. This involved GPS control establishment, topographic survey, setting out of property boundaries, swath MBES, side scan sonar, sub-bottom profiling, vibro-coring, magnetometer survey, ADCP for waves and currents, drogue tracking, salinity and temperature profiling and studies for jetty alignment and thermal plume dispersion.
In Q1 2012, EGS will be working for the U.S. Navy who are conducting LIDAR surveys offshore Palawan. Scope of works includes installing tide gauges and monitoring tide heights, establishing GPS control and 3 tidal bench marks at 4 remote areas, within the Sulu Sea area.
EGS Asia has been coordinating and carrying out specialist cable route survey and geotechnical testing for the PRC to Taiwan cable route. The EGS Geotechnical teams were able to use both the CPT N3k and 5k seabed CPT units for this challenging project
EGS Americas and Group have continued to provide project management, multi-beam and environmental specialists and specialist services to Clients in GOM over last 12 month, and recently completed a substantial marine survey at the end of Q4.
New company, EGS-MMS, to focus on the provision of metocean and acoustic monitoring services
CSA International, Inc. (CSA), and the EGS Survey Group (EGS) are pleased to announce the formation of a new Joint Venture Company, EGS Metocean Sound Sciences (EGS-MSS). The Joint Venture Company brings together both CSA’s and EGS’ extensive experience in conducting large technical marine surveys, including oceanographic programs worldwide.
EGS-MSS will be based out of Houston, Texas and will provide services through the existing offices of both CSA and EGS in Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Trinidad, United States, United Kingdom and Vietnam.
Recognizing the emerging technologies in engineering, deeper offshore exploration and production, environmental concerns, and the subsequent demand for accurate real-time metocean and acoustic monitoring data, the newly formed EGS-MSS will focus and expand its capabilities in this area, providing commercial and technical expertise for oceanographic projects around the world. This will include metocean consultancy and the collection of high-quality metocean data to assist engineering, design, daily marine operations, planning, and management for offshore exploration, field development, ports and harbours, and cable and pipeline routes.
EGS Metocean services include the following:
- Metocean consultancy (expert technical and project management advice on measurement campaigns).
- Metocean moorings (turn-key project execution of nearshore and deepwater mooring programs).
- Consultancy, design, and installation of acoustic monitoring systems to support offshore operations, including seismic survey, environmental impact assessments and to enhance our understanding of the potential effects of marine operations on the environment.
- Buoy based systems (buoy-based meteorological, wave, and current data in real-time, including the provision of full water depth current profiles in ultra deep water).
- Real-time data (real-time graphical displays of metocean data to assist with daily planning).
- Data management (secure storage of processed and raw data sets).
