Maritime archaeology is the study of humanity’s involvement with the sea. Maritime archaeology involves documenting and assessing structures and cultural deposits buried under, resting on, or built into the seabed as well as the intertidal zone and the immediate foreshore. Such maritime heritage assets are constantly under pressure from:

  • Port development
  • Reclamation projects
  • Cable/pipeline laying operations
  • Dredging

It is often the case that seabed development projects undertake their marine geophysical surveys before or independently of the environmental/archaeological studies, leading to increase of cost and duration of overall project.

EGS’s expertise in high resolution marine geophysical data acquisition and interpretation combined with Cosmos Archaeology’s extensive knowledge of maritime archaeology will assure that your project is completed in a cost effective and timely manner and in full compliance with Australia’s environmental and heritage laws without compromising any engineering requirements.

EGS own a large pool of state of the art survey equipments and employ survey techniques such as:

  • Multibeam Echosounding Bathymetry
  • High Resolution Digital Side Scan Sonar Imagery
  • High Resolution Seismic Reflection Profiling
  • Magnetometry

Subsea Visual Inspection

Wreck Survey

ROV Visual Inspection and Subsea Photogrametry

High Resolution SSS Survey

The co-operation and working relationship between all parties during all phases of this project has been a text book example of how to conduct survey operations etc.

Holland, Geoff

I just wanted to take the opportunity presented by the end of survey data acquisition activities to say thank you and well done on the excellent performance of the EGS team through the execution of the works to date. Whilst I’m mindful that there is still much to do in terms of tide gauge recovery, data processing and deliverable preparation – the performance of all personnel involved to date from EGS and Broadsword has been exemplary and particularly, the professionalism and attention to detail of the site team. It’s also been particularly pleasing to see this complicated and challenging scope completed in such a competent and hassle-free manner.
