Using the latest technology in multi-magnetometer arrays and gradiometers
EGS offers its worldwide expertise in UXO detection
surveys to port authorities, renewable energy developers,
oil & gas companies, cable installers,
dredgers, and offshore contractors
prior to any offshore operations.
Unexploded ordnance (UXOs), are explosive weapons that did not detonate or were dumped and still pose a risk of detonation, potentially many decades after they were used or discarded. Numerous UXOs are still present in various places around the world, including Europe, Australia, the Middle East and South East Asia, resulting from wars including WWII, the Vietnam War or the Iraqi Wars. These pose hazards to cable & pipeline installations, dredging or offshore construction works.
EGS offers its worldwide expertise in UXO detection surveys to port authorities, oil & gas companies, the renewable energy sector, cable installers, dredgers and offshore contractors prior to any offshore operations in areas where UXOs still pose a risk.
EGS uses the latest technology in gradiometers, proton magnetometers as well as caesium magnetometers in conjunction with high resolution side scan sonars to carry out UXO detection surveys.
UXO vary greatly in shape and size; they can range from small ammunitions to large sea mines. Their construction and composition also vary greatly, therefore well designed surveys using high sensitivity sensors are needed to detect them.
EGS offer bespoke solutions, working with UXO consultants, to generate survey designs to optimise efficiency whilst acquiring high quality data for UXO assessment.
EGS employs industry standard sensors, all with proven track records of UXO detection in the field. EGS owns and carries all necessary spare parts for the following sensors:
UXO Survey - Vietnam
Magnetometer Array
UXO Survey
Debri Recovery
The co-operation and working relationship between all parties during all phases of this project has been a text book example of how to conduct survey operations etc.

I just wanted to take the opportunity presented by the end of survey data acquisition activities to say thank you and well done on the excellent performance of the EGS team through the execution of the works to date. Whilst I’m mindful that there is still much to do in terms of tide gauge recovery, data processing and deliverable preparation – the performance of all personnel involved to date from EGS and Broadsword has been exemplary and particularly, the professionalism and attention to detail of the site team. It’s also been particularly pleasing to see this complicated and challenging scope completed in such a competent and hassle-free manner.
