Bathymetry (Hydrographic) Survey

Description

EGS uses the latest navigation and echo sounding technology to ensure that we carry out Bathymetric Surveys efficiently. We were amongst the first of survey companies to operate Differential GPS systems. These can now provide all-weather positioning within an accuracy in the order of 0.25m throughout the world.

We use automated commercially available software packages as well as in-house developed, to produce charts quickly and efficiently; using radio tide gauges to generate tidal corrections we can generally produce 'fair' charts within 24 hours of data acquisition.

All our survey work is now produced under AutoCad, and we can email a full drawing, in DWG/DXF format quickly. Our charts are easy to interpret and include colour coded contouring at required intervals, depth data, all available digital topographic data, together with information provided by the client. GIS end products are also available (including Makai PLAN).

Applications

Much of our Bathymetric Survey work is for charting for pre and post construction surveys for which we can provide a professional and cost-effective positioning and quantity evaluation service.

We offer multibeam surveys, using Allied Signal/Seabeam or Simrad swathe systems. These systems provide highly-accurate full coverage bathymetric data in a fraction of the time normally associated with conventional survey operations. Coverage levels can be determined at the beginning of the survey, in terms of number of soundings per 'bin' (for example, a requirement of 10 soundings per 5 metre bin within an acceptable standard deviation can be set into the survey control software, which will then register when the data meets the required standard). Terrain models are produced, from which quantities can be determined quickly if required.

Comments

Bathymetric survey using swathe technology is becoming increasingly accepted as a cost-effective means of charting the seabed.
