Gravity

Description

Gravity measurements are used to measure very small changes in the earth's gravity field, which are caused by density changes within the earth.

Applications

The technique is most widely used for mapping larger scale geological processes and can be used to determine the shape and structure of oil-bearing basins or anticlines. It has particular relevance to the oil-industry, where the first appraisal of a new concession area is generally made using gravity surveying techniques, in order to plan seismic surveys. It is now realistic to carry out regional gravity surveys using aerial surveying techniques.
