EGS (International) Awarded Hi-Res Bathymetric Survey Contract by UKHO in Jamaica

Marine survey specialists EGS (International) Limited (EGS) have been awarded a competitive bid contract by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) to carry out a high-resolution bathymetric survey in Jamaica.

The survey project is part of the UK Government funded Commonwealth Marine Economies Programme, which aims at supporting the sustainable growth of Commonwealth Small Island Developing States (SIDS) within the Caribbean and Pacific Ocean regions.

This survey specifically aims to gather accurate hydrographic information for updating the UKHO’s ADMIRALTY nautical charts and publications for the area. EGS will mobilise two local vessels with the latest dual-head high-resolution multibeam echo sounders, covering the approaches to Kingston Harbour and Portland Bight in unprecedented detail.

Senior EGS Project Manager, Dr Walter Colautti, underlined how this project follows on from previous similar work carried out in the Pacific region (Vanuatu) for the UKHO, and is evidence of EGS’s capabilities in providing cost-effective survey solutions while meeting the strict technical standards required by this critical work, supporting safe navigation as well as informing future developments and infrastructure.
