EGS Awarded HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program (HIPP) Hydrographic Survey in King Island, Tasmania

EGS HIPP Survey

In December 2020 EGS was announced as the successful survey contractor to undertake the Commonwealth HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program (HIPP) Survey Instruction 1013, King Island (North) – Bass Strait, Tasmania.

The HIPP planning process has identified this task to update charted bathymetry, currently assessed as ZOC C, to facilitate safe navigation, provide confirmation of known and identify new navigation hazards for freedom of manoeuvres.

The required order of survey will be IHO S44 Order 1a throughout the survey area to water depths in excess of 100m. This operation will also support other surveys undertaken by Commonwealth.

Ten tide gauges and two current meters will be deployed to acquire data to help develop the AUSHYDROID . More information about AUSHYDROID is available on the ICSM website.

EGS will be utilising Offshore Unlimited to provide the survey platform, mobilising in Hobart in January 2021. The main survey task covers approximately 3000 sq km north of King Island in the Bass Strait. In addition to the main tasks, EGS will survey three reference surfaces off Hobart to facilitate future multibeam calibrations in the region.

The HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program is the commercial acquisition program that undertakes focused hydrographic survey activities to contribute to national charting priorities. The vision for HIPP is to undertake an efficient, effective, and sustainable hydrographic survey, oceanographic and marine geophysical data collection program through a partnership with Industry to deliver a true nation-building effort. More information is available on the Australian Hydrographic Office Website.
